Often compared to songstress queens Joni Mitchell and Rickie Lee Jones, Katharina has gained the reputation as a highly accomplished and versatile singer/songwriter & composer.
A human concoction between sophisticated jazz diva, quirky Pippi Longstocking and wittily wordy intellectual, she never fails to move, amuse, shock and charm her audiences wherever she performs. Her understated style betrays her powerful and passionate talent and surprises at second sight & sound, not at first.
Having spent most of her childhood in Bavaria & Ireland, she mostly sings and writes in English and her "outsider's" approach to the language lends her expression an unusual and intriguing twist. She soon began to do voiceovers for radio and film studios alongside her mother and learned the fine art of clear speech and accurate timing.
She has been performing extensively both on her own and alongside a variety of excellent musicians in art centres, hotels, clubs and at festivals and intimate concert stages in Germany, Sweden, Ireland and England since 1989. Venues in Britain include clubs like the Guildhall/Gloucester, The Prom, The River, Tantric Jazz/Bristol, the Komedia, the Sanctuary/Brighton, The Kashmir Club/London, The Jazz & Blues Cafe and the Cheltenham Jazz/Literature Festival, that has been featuring her three times.
Autumn 1997 saw her moving to England where she soon integrated with the local music scene. She joined a local jazz trio and performed and recorded with them for nearly two years. In 1999 she finished recording ten of her own songs with them.
Originally only intended as provisional demo tracks, they received such positive feedback from musicians and audiences alike that she decided to turn them into her introspective Debut album "Somebody". Since its launch, and despite having used very limited resources, it gained much recognition in the music industry and became one of the first albums to be promoted by peoplesound, one of Britain's then largest music web sites. The first track "Angharad" got chosen to be featured on the jazz compilation album "A Rey Jazz".
In 1998 she worked with Terry Oldfield on his album "All the Rivers Gold" and appears alongside him in the documentary "Celtic Fury". In 2001 she was invited to co-write and sing on the break beat single "Truth"/Dubplatter.
In 2002, many successful performances & a profound life changing experience later she turned out her long awaited second, more gregarious and upbeat Album, "Love for Life" with a line up of some of Gloucestershire's hottest music property, Andy Nowak, Jeff Spencer, Matthew Jones and Steve Browning.
All musicians of the finest calibre, they weave often categorised genres into a richly textured fusion of groovy funk, smooth jazz, pop and soulful singer/songwriter style.
In January 2004 a mini tour in Bavaria backed by her German band earned her new contacts, enthusiastic fans and a review from one of Munich's leading papers: "Such a singer Munich can do with any time".
Despite offers by German jazz label YVP she decided to self release the Album and in April 2004 officially launched her website. Later on in May, she gave a concert of pure improvisation at the Ueberlinger water festival in Germany with Ingvo Clauder, virtuoso on both piano and saxophone.
One of her tracks from her new album was chosen to be featured on the new compilation album "The best music you've never heard - Volume 2". It is an International tribute to Independent artists produced by mosquito media, a new innovative music company.
Among other concerts she gave an exclusive performance at one of Munich's most prestigious Jazz clubs "Unterfahrt", backed by yet another ensemble of Munich's best & busiest jazz musicians.
Her music is regularly broadcast locally (Stroud FM, BBC Gloucestershire, The Eagle, Bristol) and internationally (ISON Radio Network, Australia).
She is featured on the lately released Album by DJ Giles (Wood) "a new way 4 ward", with their collaborative track "abandon".
In September 2006 she finished studio recordings for her third album "Being Human", backed by Shane Young, Paul K. Scott and Tommy Scott, who have since then formed formidable instrumental trio "Future Positive". The recordings will remain port folio material until label contract is secured.
While her main self taught instruments are vocals, piano and guitar, she also enjoys composing, performing & recording on the African thumb piano, her home made bamboo flute & tea chest bass, the Paraguayan harp and many more...
The content of all services provided is drawn from her rich experience as a practising professional musician, a year long course in Performing Arts, a Waldorf Playgroup Teaching Diploma & two years of running her own playgroup, individual vocal tuition and workshops/master classes she attends.
